Johan Skalberg Seminar

IKEAFseminar

Left to right: Matt Teasdale, Andy Smith, Me, Johan Skalberg.
Today I went to the Johan ('The Viking') Skalberg seminar at Phoenix Mixed martial arts academy. (Johan is on the far right, the guy that seems to be a different scale to everyone else.) We concentrated on weapons, and it was a lot of fun! We started with double stick and went through a basic six count, learning how best to get the most out of the drill. We also added in some albenico hits. Then we did some single stick, IKEAF style with the emphasis on the stick as an impact weapon rather than as a substitute for a blade. We also did some knife work which included takedowns. It ran from 11.00 to 5.00 and I didn't get too battered, although I can't bend my elbow. I'm sure once the swelling goes down it will be fine though....
Sheriff took some nice pictures of Matt and Johan for a Martial
Arts Illustrated article. You can see some here.

an absolutely incredible weekend!
johan is one of the nicest and most welcoming guys i've met.
someone who is completely confident and really friendly....yet he still manages to scare the doodoo out of you when he fights.

it is always great to train with leonie, who is a pretty groovy martial artist (a fact she often doesn't mention).

i must take credit (to my shame and embarrassment) for leonies wonky elbow..and my buddy sam's broken (and dislocated) knuckles.

it's not that i'm tough..just clumsy.

apologies to everyone.. i really am an eeediot!

the oaf
